Children’s Bible Lessons:
>Ephesians 6:14-The Armor of God-The Belt of Truth-Lesson 1
HOOK
Have a pair of pants that are too big for you. Put these pants on over your clothes and show the kids how they fall down and how terrible it would be to have their pants fall down. Ask them what could you do to fix this problem.
(Use a belt). Put a belt through the loops of the pants and tighten. Tell them how smart they are and how much you appreciate them helping you solve this problem. You can also thank them for helping you to introduce what the Bible lesson is about today!!
****THE BELT OF TRUTH****
BOOK
Read Ephesians 6 as you prepare this lesson. Verses 10-20 tell us about special weapons and tools that we need to be strong in the Lord. We are going to explain each of these in simple terms to begin to lay a foundation that a strong Christian actively uses spiritual tools to fight against Satan, our enemy, and pursues righteousness and the glory of God.
A belt holds up a very important part of our clothing. Just like we can’t keep up these pants without a certain tool, we can’t be strong in the Lord without His Truth around us. What did we use to hold up the pants? (A belt) What do you think is the tool that a Christian uses to learn the Truth? (A Bible)
The Bible is God’s Holy Word. Everything that is written in that book is true. There are NO LIES in the Bible. Did you ever hear the story that is in the Bible about a young man named Daniel? He was thrown into a lion’s den because he wouldn’t believe the lie that worshipping other gods was o.k. But God protected him from being eaten by the lions and he came out of that scary place alive!!! That is a true story. There are a lot of things we see on TV and in video games that are fake; they’re not real. But we can believe that everything we read about in the Bible is God’s truth. We need to use this very special gift from God as a tool to fight the lies of Satan.
Memory Verse: “Stand firm with the belt of truth around your waist.” Ephesians 6:14
LOOK
What could be some lies that Satan wants us to believe?
-It’s alright to lie, cheat, steal, hurt someone, be selfish, be mean to others, not obey and respect our parents.
-What is the truth in God’s Holy Word, the Bible?
Do not lie, cheat, steal. Be kind and loving to everyone, put others before yourself, obey and show honor (respect) to your parents.
God loves us so much, that He wants to protect us from the lies that the world tells us that will really end up getting us in trouble. He knows that if we lie, steal, hurt someone or do these other things, that we will feel terrible in our hearts, and most likely will be caught and get in trouble. When you lie, people don’t believe you anymore. If you steal or cheat, people don’t want to be your friend because they don’t feel safe with you. If you are mean to others, people will not want to play with you because you hurt their feelings. Satan tricks us into doing these things because he makes us think we’ll get out of trouble or have things that we want. Anything that goes against God’s Word is a lie and will hurt us.
Let’s learn about what God says in the Bible so that we can know what the Truth is and have a tool to protect us against Satan’s lies, just like a belt of Truth.
TOOK
Whenever you hear a little voice inside you that says, “Tell a little lie”, or “You can take that even if it doesn’t belong to you”, or “Kick or hit that person because they’re being mean to you”, remember what the “Belt of Truth” says. The Bible says, “Do not lie”, “Do not steal”, “Be kind to others and have self-control”. You will be strong in the Lord!!
Closing Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us special tools to be strong Christians. Help us to learn what your Word says and remember the truths when lies come into our heads. Help us to use the Belt of Truth every day. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Snack
Craft- Give each child a piece of material long enough to go around their waist with the words, “Belt of Truth” written on one side, and write the child’s whole name on the other side. Let them wear the belts until it’s time to clean up, and then collect each one at the end and put in the box marked with the correct time of the service. There will be two containers for each service that will hold each piece of armor the child makes. When the 8 lessons on over, each child should go home with a complete set of armor.
