John 9:1-12
“Healing the Blind Man”
HOOK:
Bring in a blind fold and take turns blind folding the children.  Hold them by the hand as they take a few steps, just so they can get a feel of what it’s like to be blind.  Give everyone a turn (maybe two at a time if there’s a lot of kids, one child per teacher or helper).  Tell them that when your eyes don’t work, you  are blind.  How did it feel to be blind folded?  It was dark and probably a little scary.  You had to hold the teacher’s hand, or you could’ve bumped into someone or tripped over a toy and gotten hurt.

Does anybody know a blind person?  What are some things a blind person could use to help him (seeing eye dog, cane, brail to read, computers that talk).  Your life would be very different if you were blind. You wouldn’t know what colors looked like, or what your Mom or Dad looked like, or even yourself.  We are going to talk about a man in the Bible that was born blind and a miracle that Jesus did.

BOOK: John 9:1-12
Jesus was passing by on a road, and he saw a man born blind from birth.  This means he never saw anything.  He didn’t know what color was, what something simple like a banana or a ball looked like.  He had to guess how things looked by feeling them.  It would be very sad if you couldn’t see people smile at you or see what animals looked like or anything around you.  Being able to see is such an amazing gift that we need to thank God for.

When Jesus saw this blind man, He wanted him to be able to see.  So he did a miracle, something only God could do.  Jesus spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and put the clay to the blind man’s eyes.  He told him to go and wash and the man came back seeing!  It was a miracle that Jesus took away this man’s blindness and made him be able to see.  Jesus is the Son of God and He has the power to do anything!

LOOK:
When you had the blind fold on, you probably wanted to take it off right away because it was dark and you couldn’t see anything.  This blind man in the Bible couldn’t do anything to take away the darkness from his eyes and make himself see.  He needed a miracle.  Jesus came and healed him- He took away his blindness so that he could see.  Only Jesus has the power to make someone see.  We can believe that Jesus is God’s son because of all the miracles He did.

TOOK:
What is your favorite color?  Isn’t it great that you can see different colors and animals and people and all the pretty things God made in His world?  It would be very sad to live in a world of darkness.  When someone is blind, they need special tools to help them.  We should be very thankful for our healthy bodies, and be willing to help people if they can’t see or can’t hear or can’t walk.  Jesus did more than help the blind man. He healed him!  That was an amazing miracle that only God could do!

CLOSING PRAYER:
Thank you, Jesus, for showing us your power by healing the blind man.  You are a God of miracles and we believe you can do anything.  In Jesus’ Name, AMEN!
