Luke 15:8-10

Luke 15:8-10 Parables:
The Lost Coin
HOOK:
Before the children come in, hide a quarter in the classroom.  Don’t make it too difficult or too obvious.  You can give each of them a turn (ask the class to hide their eyes while you hide it each time).

BOOK: Luke 15:8-10
Jesus was always teaching the people about God and telling them stories to make it easier for them to understand.  A story that teaches something is called a parable. One of the stories Jesus told was about a woman who had 10 silver coins and she lost one.  One silver coin was worth a lot, and she needed her money to buy food and clothes and what she needed to live.  The woman stopped everything else she was doing, turned on a bright light, swept the house, moved around furniture and looked in every nook and cranny to find her lost coin.  When she finally found it, she ran to her friends and shouted to her neighbors that she found her lost coin!  She was so happy and she wanted everyone else to be happy with her.

LOOK:
Jesus told this story because he wanted people to know how important each of them was to Him.  When we don’t have God in our heart, we are like that lost coin.  Jesus doesn’t want us to be lost and away from Him.  He wants every person to come to Him and ask for forgiveness so they can be His child and go to be with Him in heaven one day.  Have you asked Jesus to clean your heart from all the black marks of sin?  If you have, then you are not lost like that woman’s coin in the parable.  You belong to God as one of His children and the Bible says that all the angels in heaven rejoice!!  (Luke:15:10)

TOOK:
Does anybody have any questions about what it means to be lost? (You don’t have God as your father) What sin is? (The bad things you do that keep you from being God’s child) What forgiveness is? (Letting Jesus take the punishment of your sin by dying on the cross and shedding His blood to wash your sin away) What it means to repent? (turn away from the bad things you do and stop sinning)  Has anyone ever asked Jesus to wash their heart clean of sin and to come into their life?  We pray that each of you will come to know Jesus as your Savior.  (Please read the page titled A Child’s Relationship with Chirst included in this lesson.  It can also be found in the yellow “Kingdom Kids Handbook”).

MEMORY VERSE:
“There is rejoicing in heaven with the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” Luke 15:10

CLOSING PRAYER:
Dear God, we pray that each of these precious children will understand what it means to be lost in their sin.  Help them to be sorry for their sin and to ask you to forgive them and make them more like you every day.  We will rejoice when we know that each one has been found by you and is your child. In Jesus’ Name, AMEN!
