BOOK: Luke 9:20
HOOK:
Hold up two crackers (any shape and size), and say that you are going to divide these crackers so that everyone can have some. Tell them not to eat it until everybody gets theirs and you pray and thank God for the food. After you pray, tell them to eat their cracker. Ask them if they are full. Ask them if they wish thy had some more. Tell the children that they are going to hear about how Jesus took a little bit of food and fed a WHOLE lot of people.
BOOK:Luke 9:20
We have been talking about the miracles of Jesus. A miracle is something that only God can do. Jesus is all-powerful and almighty and He can do anything. People started to hear about Jesus and about the amazing miracles He was doing. More and more people came to see Jesus and listen to him talk about God and see him do miracles that made people better. Then one day, there were LOTS and LOTS of people around Jesus. So many that the number was in the thousands. Do you know how many that is? If you are watching a ball game on TV, all of those people in the stands watching the game would be almost that many. Well, it had been a very long day. Jesus’ friends, the disciples, told Jesus that he should send all the people away because it was getting to be dinnertime. Jesus told the disciples to feed them. The disciples were in shock!! They didn’t have enough money to buy food for all these people! And where would they get such an enormous amount of food anyway? They told Jesus that they had no more than five loaves of bread and two fish. Maybe Jesus would see how impossible it would be to feed this huge crowd and tell them to go away himself. But Jesus didn’t do that. He told the disciples to have the crowd sit in groups like we have here all over the place. “Then Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed them, and broke them, and kept giving them to the disciples to set before the multitude. And they ALL ate and were satisfied.” And after everyone ate until they felt full, they cleaned up the extra and filled twelve baskets FULL! Now THAT was a miracle!!
LOOK:
When we shared our crackers, did you feel full, or did you want more? I was only able to give you what I had. If there were more kids here, then the pieces would have been even smaller. Jesus started with only five loaves of bread and two fish, but because He could do miracles, all of those people had more than a crumb. They ate enough to fill themselves up and there were lots of baskets left over! We can believe that Jesus can do anything because He is God. God has power to do anything!
TOOK:
Next time you have your lunch or dinner, think about how Jesus took regular meal for just one person and turned it into a feast for thousands!! It would be like one Happy Meal from McDonalds turning into enough hamburgers to feed everyone at a big place (like Disney World or any place that you think the kids would picture a lot of people). Only Jesus could do an amazing miracle like that. Jesus is the Son of God!
