Missions Mark 16:15

HOOK:

Show some kind of souvenir or trinket from another country (we will try to have something there to show the kids) and also have a globe or world map.  Talk about the differences in the way people in other parts of the world dress, eat, live, worship, travel, etc.  Show pictures from missions magazines and explain that people may look different from us on the outside (skin, hair, dress, language), but we are the same on the inside.  We all have feelings and need love and attention.  No matter what we look like on the outside, we all need Jesus

BOOK:

“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”  Mark 16:15

Does it make you happy to come to church?  It’s so great that we can come to Kingdom Kids and hear about Jesus and learn about the Bible.  Not everyone that we know goes to church.  How do people learn about God if they don’t go to a church?  Somebody has to tell them.  If you go to your friend’s house and tell them that Jesus loves them, you are giving them good news!  Jesus wants everyone to know that He loves them.  But we live in a big world with lots of people.  If you go to the people who live next door, you can walk there.  But what about people who live across the ocean? (Show the children on a globe where the United States is, point out the ocean and then show them Japan, Russia, Australia).  That is a long way.  We call a person who goes to another country to tell people about God a missionary.  A missionary learns as much as they can about the way people in another part of the world lives.  They may have to learn to speak a different language, they may have to wear different clothes and get used to different kinds of food.  God wants everyone to hear the good news that Jesus loves them and He is the Savior.  A missionary is a very special person that wants to share God’s love with people who live far away.

LOOK:

Has anyone been on a plane or train?  Did you take a trip to visit your Grandma or friend that lived far away?  What was it like to travel far away and to be in a different house and sleep in a different bed?  Did you have to eat something that you’ve never tasted before?  Once I had to eat _______ when I was at somebody’s house and it was weird!  People who are missionaries have to get used to a lot of things that are different when they go to live in another part of the world to tell people about Jesus.  A missionary’s job is very important.

TOOK:

Who can tell me what a missionary is?  Who can show me on the globe where we live?  Point to an ocean.  Point to a different country.  How will the people who live all the way over here (point to a country and say the name) find out about Jesus?  Someone who loves Jesus and wants to tell others about Him will travel on a long journey to another country.  That person is a missionary.

CLOSING PRAYER:

Thank you, Jesus, that we can come to church and learn about you.  Please help the missionaries to do a good job telling other people about Jesus.  In Jesus’ Name, AMEN!
