The Wordless Book

Presenting the Gospel

HOOK:

Show the kids the colorful book made out of construction paper (the “Wordless Book”  will be made for the craft).  Hold up another book (any book off the shelf) and say, “Both of these are story books.”  Have the kids tell you the differences between the two “books”.

(ex.-one has words and pictures, the other one has solid colored pages, they both open the same way, one you can read, the other one you don’t know anything about, yet!)

After you discuss the similarities and differences, tell them that you are going to “read” them a story from “The Wordless Book”.

BOOK:

The Wordless Book

Black

Our sin separates us from God.  He cannot let sin go unpunished, so we need a Savior to pay the penalty of the bad things we do that make our heart black with sin.

“The wages of sin is death . . .”  Romans 6:23

RED

Red is for the color of the blood that Jesus shed on the cross to forgive our sins and bring us to God.  He is our Savior if we ask Him to take away our sin.

“. . . the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin.”  1 John 1:7

White

Our hearts are made clean from sin and are as white as snow when we ask Jesus into our heart.

“. . . Though your sins are as scarlet, they will be as white as snow . . . “  Isa.1:18

Green

Green stands for the new life we have in Christ when we ask Jesus to come into our hearts and cleanse us with His blood and make us white as snow.

“Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.”  Romans 6:4

Gold(or yellow)

Gold represents that we will spend eternity in heaven with our Father if we have Jesus’ forgiveness of sin.

“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth . . . and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be among them, and He shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there shall no longer be any death; there shall no longer be any mourning, or crying , or pain . . .” Revelations 21:1-4

LOOK:

Even though you can’t read, when you get familiar with what all the colors stand for, you can “read” this book to your family and friends.  By reading this book, you are sharing the greatest story in the world!  Jesus wants everyone to know how much He loves them and that He wants to give them a new heart and life that is clean from sin.

TOOK:

Hold up the book and as you flip through each page, repeat  a short phrase what every color stands for:

Black- sin

Red- the blood of Jesus that takes away our sin

White-clean heart

Green- growing in Christ

Yellow- heaven

CLOSING PRAYER:

Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross to pay for our sin so that we can have forgiveness and be your child.  Please help us to tell others how much you  love them.  In Jesus’ Name, AMEN!!
